Aer Lingus January traffic marginally up 08/02/2010 - 07:51:00
Aer Lingus’ total passenger numbers in January 2010 were marginally up on the previous year, the company said today, but long-haul passenger numbers were down sharply.
Total passenger numbers were 665,000, an increase of 0.6% compared to January 2009, the airline announced.
Short haul passengers were 608,000, a 3.6% increase on January 2009 and long haul passengers were 57,000, a 23% decrease on January 2009.
The airline said poor weather conditions and flight cancellations during the month had "resulted in a greater than normal difference between Aer Lingus’ booked passenger numbers and flown passenger numbers".
Overall load factor in the month was 67.4%, an increase of 3.1 points compared to January 2009, with capacity decreasing by 10.7%.
However total load factor for January 2010 based on flown passenger numbers was 64.1%.
