Call for integrated approach to flood management.
17/01/2010 - 10:39:25

The Government is being urged to implement a single agency solution to flood management and waterways maintenance.

The calls come from the president of the IFA ahead of a public forum on flood management being held in Ballinasloe later today

Minister of State Martin Mansergh is expected to attend the meeting as well as representatives from the ESB and Waterways Ireland.

IFA President John Bryan said the current number of agencies involved is failing rural Ireland.

"One of the things that has been lacking over the past number of years is accountability," Mr Bryan said.

"When things go wrong someone has to be held responsible.

"What we are asking the Government today is to put one body in place, and we will work with them. They need to listen to the people on the ground."
