Committee members to inspect Cork flood damage
04/02/2010 - 08:51:07

Members of a Dáil committee will visit Cork today to find out how November's floods caused so much devastation.

The Oireachtas Environment Committee is on a fact-finding trip which will include a meeting with ESB bosses tomorrow.

Members of the committee along with local TDs and senators will tour areas of the city and county impacted by the flooding.

They will meet with local residents, councillors and officials to get an update on the latest plans to repair the damage and to see what can be done to prevent a repeat of the devastation.

The tour begins this evening with visits to Fermoy and University College Cork.

The delegation will meet with ESB officials tomorrow to find out why so much water was released from the Inniscarra dam, a factor being blamed for major flooding in the city.
