Man killed in Westmeath car crash

A 36-year-old man died today when the car he was travelling in crashed into a pole.

Two other people were in the vehicle when the accident happened on the Mullingar to Ballynacarrigy Road at Muleadys Cross, Co Westmeath, at around 1.30am.

They were rushed to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, where one remains in a serious condition.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed to allow garda crash investigators carry out an examination.

Witnesses are asked to contact gardaĆ­.
