Number of young people unemployed trebles in two years

The number of unemployed people under the age of 25 jumped from 10% to 31% during the last two years.

The figure was revealed today by the Governor of the Central Bank - who is warning unemployment levels will continue to rise this year.

Figures published last week by the Central Statistics Office showed the rate of unemployment hit 12.7% after a rise in the numbers signing on in January.
