FG to discuss Lee resignation fallout
09/02/2010 - 07:55:21

The leadership of Fine Gael will today assess the damage from the resignation of George Lee.

The now former Dublin South TD rocked the political scene yesterday when he bowed out after just eight months in the job.

The Fine Gael front bench are already trying to deal with the negative public impact with many saying Lee should have realised he needed to serve more than a nine-month apprenticeship.

At least one senior front bencher - Leo Varadkar - says yesterday was a bad day for party leader Enda Kenny, but that they must unite now.

However, Lee's revelations that murmurings about Kenny's leadership have been increasing in recent times will cause concern.

If any senior member of the party is getting ready to move against Enda Kenny they know that this is an opportunity that may not present itself again before an election.
