22/02/2010 - 07:46:12

Two people have been killed in separate road accidents in counties Dublin and Laois overnight.

Two others remain in hospital after they were seriously injured in a crash near Drogheda in Co Louth yesterday afternoon.

The Laois crash happened just before 1am today, when there was a multi-vehicle crash on the M7 near Portlaoise.

An elderly woman lost her life in the crash, which is believed to have involved at least three cars.

Just over an hour later, a man was killed after a single-vehicle accident in Dublin at the junction of Kilshane Drive and the Ratoath Road in Finglas.

The road has been closed for a technical examination.

Meanwhile, a man and a woman, aged 20 and 21, were seriously injured in a crash in Co Louth.

The two-car collision happened on the Drogheda to Duleek Road at 2pm yesterday afternoon. They are being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
