Galway council fined for polluting river
13/11/2009 - 10:57:17

Galway County Council has been fined after sewage was discharged into the Clarin River.

The offence, which dates back to July 2006, happened at the Sewage Treatment Plant in Athenry and breached the Fisheries Act.

The council has been ordered to pay out just under €10,000 including legal costs.

The Fisheries Board says it is now satisfied by improvements which have since been made by the council.
