Committee seeking views on memorial for abuse victims
16/12/2009 - 17:47:26

The public are being asked to give their views on the type and location of a memorial to victims of child abuse, it was revealed tonight.

The newly-formed memorial committee for survivors of abuse is placing ads in newspapers seeking submissions on the plan as well as a national day of remembrance.

A budget of €500,000 has been set aside for the memorial which will be managed by the Office of Public Works.

The Ryan Report, released last May, recommended the memorial to publicly acknowledge the experiences of victims.

It was also suggested the the 1999 apology from former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern be inscribed on it.

Proposals can also be submitted to memorialeducation.gov.ie
