Gardaí probe road deaths
08/11/2009 - 10:19:23

Gardaí were today probing the deaths of two men in separate road accidents.

A 27-year-old motorist was killed near Slane, Co Meath, when his car collided with a van at a crossroads.

The driver of the van, a 23-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The scene of the accident, which happened at 9.45pm last night, remains closed for examination by forensic collision investigators. Traffic diversions are in place.

A man in his late 20s also died after a night out following a road accident in Dundrum at around 2.45am this morning. Gardaí are investigating the incident and the road has been sealed off.

Elsewhere a man remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following a collision between a garda car and another vehicle.

The patrol car was behind a broken-down vehicle which was being removed by a tow truck at the Red Cow roundabout when the second vehicle struck in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission is investigating.
