Davis urges Gers to go out on a high
09/12/2009 - 07:55:41

Steven Davis admits Rangers have a major point to prove as they prepare to bring their Champions League campaign to a close at Sevilla tonight.

The Scottish champions head into the clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan knowing little more than pride is at stake.

Just two points from their previous matches – picked up on the road against Stuttgart and Unirea Urziceni – means even a Europa League berth is no longer a possibility as they head into their final Group G game.

But Davis insists, rather than treat the match as meaningless, Rangers must use the meeting with Sevilla to make amends for what has been a dismal European campaign.

The midfielder said: “They are a very good side and we found that out at home when they caused us a lot of problems with players that are capable of making a difference in games.

“They will have ambitions to progress further in the competition so we know they will be a dangerous side. But we know from our own point of view that we have to come here and prove a point.

“We have been disappointed with our performances in the competition so far and I think there is a bit of pride at stake for us. So hopefully we can come here and put on a good performance and get a decent result.”
