Militants kill anti-Taliban tribal elder in Pakistan
17/01/2010 - 10:54:36

Officials in Pakistan’s northwest said a group of gunmen shot and killed an anti-Taliban tribal elder.

Today’s attack came as Malik Abdul Qayum was getting into his vehicle in Khar, the main town in the Bajur tribal area. Gunmen sprayed the car with bullets.

Tribal elders who organised local militias to battle militants have been targeted recently.

The Pakistani government encouraged the formation of the militias to counter the Taliban.
