NASA readies shuttle for last big mission 08/02/2010 - 07:15:48
A Nasa launch team loaded fuel into the shuttle Endeavour as it prepares to blast off today on the last big space station construction mission.
The three-hour-long operation – the second in two days – began just as the Super Bowl was kicking off in Miami, Florida last night.
Endeavour is due to blast off at 4.14am (9.14am Irish time).
Yesterday’s try was spoiled by thick, low clouds, but although more of the same is expected today, forecasters are going with a 60% chance of acceptable weather.
It is the last scheduled night launch for the space shuttle programme, which is winding down after nearly 30 years. After this one, just four more flights remain.
Endeavour’s six astronauts will deliver and install a new room and observation deck at the International Space Station.
