E-net, the Limerick-based firm that managed the first phase of the state-owned fibre optic telecoms network, has been appointed by the government to manage the second phase of the project. The network, which is known as the metropolitan area networks (MANs), will now be extended to an additional 66 towns.
Free software for start-ups
Business planning IT company Palo Alto software has promised to give away €50,000 worth of its products to help to encourage start-up firms in Ireland. The US company said it would provide 345 Irish entrepreneurs with copies of its Business Plan Pro Premier software free of charge. The software will be available from www.paloalto.ie next Wednesday.
Sisk secures remote access
Mobile operator O2 has agreed a new deal with construction firm John Sisk. The deal enables Sisk employees to access office systems while away from their desks. Sisk has installed O2’s AccessMyLan solution, which allows for secure remote access to desktop and internal applications. AccessMyLan can be used across the internet, from a home internet connection or a portable USB modem.
